EV Charging for Destin and Miramar Beach Resorts
A couple in Birmingham is booking four nights on the Emerald Coast. They have two browser tabs open, one for a resort in Miramar Beach and one for a resort in Destin. Similar beaches, similar rates, similar pools. One amenity list says EV charging. The other does not.
For a general manager, that is the argument in miniature. Part of that choice can happen on a booking page, before the guest arrives.
Short answer: For a Destin or Miramar Beach resort, EV charging earns its place when it shows up before the guest books: a listed amenity on the property's own booking pages and, once commissioned by a Tesla Certified Installer with reliable connectivity, eligibility for the Tesla app's map and Trip Planner (Tesla makes the final listing decision). Florida Chargers installs Tesla Universal Wall Connectors for $5,000-$8,000 per port before incentives, typically 6 to 12 weeks from signing to energized, with hardware included and financing for qualified properties.
Does EV charging really bring in more bookings?
One public signal comes from a hotel company, not a charger company. Hilton's Jean Garris Hand said EV charging is the highest-converting amenity on Hilton.com, as reported by Skift in 2025. Those numbers describe Hilton's own booking site, not what any one Destin or Miramar Beach resort will see. Hilton's point is about conversion: shoppers who find charging tend to book.
The broader case for hotels -- how road-trip drivers plan around charging and why the Tesla network matters -- is covered in why being on Tesla's charging network brings more guests to a hotel. This post stays on the Destin and Miramar Beach specifics and the decisions a GM actually makes.
What a guest sees before booking
There are two places a resort's charging shows up before arrival.
- The resort's own amenity list: Once the chargers are energized, the property can add EV charging to its own website and booking pages like any other amenity.
- Tesla listing eligibility: Tesla Universal Wall Connectors are eligible for listing in the Tesla app's map and Trip Planner once commissioned by a Tesla Certified Installer with reliable connectivity (Tesla makes the final listing decision). Florida Chargers is a Tesla Certified commercial EV charging reseller and installer.
Every port is a Tesla Universal Wall Connector, which serves Tesla and non-Tesla guests alike.
The five decisions a GM actually makes
Florida Chargers offers a free site assessment. These are the questions that come out of it.
1. How many ports. Florida Chargers does not apply a fixed ratio to hotels; its rule of thumb of about one port per 20 to 30 units is a multifamily starting point. Florida Chargers sizes a resort install from three things checked at the assessment: spare capacity on the electrical service, the distance from that service to the candidate parking spaces, and how many guests the GM expects to arrive by EV. Each port runs $5,000 to $8,000 installed before incentives, so the count is a budget decision as much as a demand one.
2. Where they go. Near the entrance or valet stand is the most visible choice for a guest. Near the electrical service usually means a shorter wiring run. The assessment lays out both options for the GM.
3. Guest-only or open to the public. Tesla's commercial charging page treats a charger that is available to customers or visitors as a public site. Whether specific ports can be held for overnight guests only is confirmed per site at the assessment rather than promised in advance.
4. Free or paid. Tesla's commercial charging page states that a site can offer charging as complimentary or as pay-per-use. Under Share the Revenue, a pay-per-use price is set per site in Tesla for Business and drivers pay per session in the Tesla app. Any guest-versus-visitor rate difference is also confirmed per site, not assumed.
5. Which utility, which incentive. This one is specific to the Emerald Coast, so it gets its own section.
Which utility serves a Destin or Miramar Beach resort?
It depends on the address. FPL lists Okaloosa and Walton counties in its Northwest Florida service area. Choctawhatchee Electric Cooperative (CHELCO) states that it serves Okaloosa and Walton counties as well. Because both utilities list these counties, the serving utility has to be checked address by address.
That matters because the make-ready incentives this post covers come from the utility. If the resort is an FPL customer, the FPL EVolution Make-Ready Credit offers up to $1,200 per Level 2 port for charging at public locations, workplaces, fleets or multifamily properties, and FPL states that funding is first-come until the program budget is depleted. Whether a given resort setup qualifies, including guest-only ports, is confirmed with FPL during the assessment. For a resort served by another provider, Florida Chargers does not assume any incentive; eligibility is confirmed with the serving utility during the assessment. A wider look at program details is in the guide to EV charging for Florida hotels and resorts.
Who pays, who owns, and how the revenue works
Florida Chargers offers one program, Share the Revenue. The property invests in the professional installation -- electrical work, permits and utility coordination -- and Florida Chargers owns and operates the chargers. The property then shares in net charging profit for the full term. Tesla Wall Connector hardware is included, with no separate hardware charge.
For a resort that would rather not fund the work out of the capital budget this year, financing for qualified properties can cover the electrical infrastructure and installation with no money down. The ROI calculator gives a first look at the numbers before the assessment, and the hotel EV charging page lays out the program for hospitality properties.
How long until the resort can list it?
Florida Chargers' typical timeline is 6 to 12 weeks from a signed agreement to energized chargers. Once the Wall Connectors are commissioned, the resort can add EV charging to its amenity list and booking pages, and the chargers become eligible for the Tesla app listing described above. Signing 6 to 12 weeks ahead of a target date is the planning window.
For a GM, the honest summary is simple. Charging does not replace the beach, the pool or the rate. It is one more line on the amenity list and, per Hilton, the highest-converting amenity on Hilton.com.
